Cropthorne Walkabout - Community Event

The Cropthorne Walkabout is a much‑loved annual tradition which was held on the Sunday and Monday of the May Day bank holiday.

Organised entirely by volunteers, the event raises vital funds for the local community and for the upkeep of our beautiful 12th‑century church. Each year, the church becomes a stunning showcase of colour and fragrance thanks to its spectacular flower festival — a highlight in its own right.

The Walkabout offered a fantastic day out for all ages. Visitors enjoyed live music, a wide range of stalls selling fresh produce, plants, flowers, crafts, ice cream, and more, along with a tombola, tea and cake, and of course, a well‑stocked beer tent. Children took on the climbing wall, rode the miniature steam railway, explored the play area, and watched the ever‑popular dog show and Morris dancers.

One of the most treasured features of the event was the open gardens, where many local residents welcome visitors into their grounds. It’s a rare chance to wander through charming thatched cottages and historic homes that have stood for centuries.
